David Lee Roth’s kid sister turns your favorite tunes into lullabies

Photo: Ron Galella/WireImage When Lisa Roth was just 4 years old, she and her older brother, David Lee Roth, were given a tour of the legendary Greenwich Village venue Cafe Wha? Their uncle Manny opened the place in 1959 (he sold it in 1968), and while there he even booked a young Bob Dylan, but fired him after he started turning up late. “Uncle Manny carried me down the stairs, and I remember there was a steel-drum band playing,” Lisa tells The Post of her early memory. “My brother etched his initials into one of the posts down there, and decided he wanted to be a part of it all.” David went on to be the singer in a little rock ’n’ roll band named Van Halen. But his kid sister is making hits, too. Roth, 58, is the brains behind the surprisingly successful “Rockabye Baby!” series of albums. Debuting in 2006, “Baby” turns the hits of legendary rock and pop acts such as The Beatles, Led Zeppelin and Taylor Swift into lullabies for babies. The series has released 74 albums and sold more than 1.5 million physical units. The latest installment (out Friday) is a collection of Rihanna’s hits. “We plan our releases a year in advance, so we had no idea she would be touring right now,” says Roth. “The only way it could have worked out better is if she was pregnant!” Roth has no children of her own, but works with a team of producers who deconstruct each song and replace the original vocals and instrumentation with xylophones and bells. Purists may sneer, but artists not only give their blessing, they sometimes even collaborate. Aerosmith’s Steven Tyler and Def Leppard’s Joe Elliott contributed liner notes to their “Rockabye Baby!” albums, while Elton John has also declared his fandom. The key to the success of these albums, says Roth, vice president and creative director of the Los Angeles-based CMH Label Group, is that adults love them just as much as the kids. “We’re very popular with dads,” she says. “I got the idea when I was shopping for a baby shower and realized there was no gift that appealed to the parents’ tastes.” Although Roth admits to being wary of mixing family with business, there is a Van Halen “Rockabye Baby!” album — which her brother not only approved of, but made a promotional video for. “A lot of you may well be my children,” joked the rocker in the video he made with his sister. “Van Halen were actually a big influence on the series,” says Roth. “They’ve shown me the blood, sweat and tears that successful artists expend. These albums were done with high regard — I actually think of them as an homage.” Remember when people said #vinyl was dead?
