FX’s miniseries “The People v. O.J. Simpson” has kept fairly true to the historical facts of the famous trial, but the one thing viewers really want to know is, did prosecutors Marcia Clark and Christopher Darden really engage in a romance? Tuesday’s episode featured a tension-filled good-night between Clark (Sarah Paulson) and Darden (Sterling K. Brown), in which he nearly kisses her during a weekend jaunt to Oakland, Calif. So Ellen DeGeneres invited the real Clark on her daytime talk show to try to get to the bottom of this romantic mystery. Sarah Paulson as Marcia Clark and Sterling K. Brown as Christopher Darden in FX’s ‘The People v. O.J. Simpson.’ “It seemed like y’all had a relationship and I don’t know if it ever went anywhere . . . I don’t know how you felt about him, but he seemed to be in love with you,” DeGeneres says to her guest in a preview clip from Thursday’s episode. “It didn’t seem that way to me,” Clark responds. “We were really partners, we were trenchmates. He wasn’t my second chair . . . we were co-counsel . . . I can’t tell you how important it was to have him there.” But DeGeneres doesn’t let her get off that easy, asking, “Did you . . . make out?” Clark breaks down laughing before acknowledging, “We danced,” as was depicted in an episode of the FX miniseries. So DeGeneres tries another tack: “In the series we saw you almost make out, but then you didn’t make out. But in real life, you made out?” “We did take a trip to the Bay Area,” Clark says, laughing. “Yeah,” DeGeneres replies. “So you made out? “This is going well,” Clark says. The full appearance will air on “Ellen” on Thursday at 4 p.m. on NBC in New York (check local listings for other markets).
